Project Homeless Connect

  • Tri-CAP
  • December 20, 2010

Project Homeless Connect is an annual event that many states have held in previous years. St. Cloud, MN is currently in the process of planning its very own first Project Homeless Connect event, scheduled for April 4th, 2011. The event is being organized by well trained staff and volunteers, and local organizations will be setting up tables and booths at the event. This is aimed at providing new and useful resources to those attending the event.

The event is being organized by Tri-CAP’s very own Cheri K and two interns. Cheri has extensive knowledge of the St. Cloud area and has worked in the Community Service’s housing program for 3+ years. There couldn’t be a better candidate for the large task at hand. She will have some help from volunteers and the two interns, and all are excited for the event. The lead intern, Sara S,  will be  planning the majority of the event, with Cheri supervising the process. A grant proposal was written and Edina Realty responded with funds for the event.

Project Homeless Connect will bring together local organizations in the Stearns, Benton and Sherburne county area. This will provide a one-stop shop for the homeless population to receive services and information about other services that local organizations provide. Sometimes people don’t even know what services are available, and so continues the cycle of homelessness.  This event is aimed at providing resources, in order to lead guests in attendance to self sufficiency. The event is also trying to connect with community members to acknowledge the rate at which the homeless population is growing.

The event is scheduled to take place April 4th, 2011 at St. Cloud State University and over 75+ organizations will be participating in the event. The expected turn out for the event is roughly 200 to 300 attendees, and they will be provided with new and useful information. Although Project Homeless Connect is a one day event, it will have long term effects for those in attendance, and their families.
